Courses

What it does: Sollingo offers 5 language courses — Spanish, French, Italian, Croatian, and Japanese — each broken into units and lessons of increasing difficulty.

How it works:

  1. Visit the Courses page
  2. Select any course to make it your active course
  3. Your active course is highlighted; switching is instant and never loses progress in the course you switch away from

Benefits:

  • Learn multiple languages in parallel without losing progress in either
  • Course selection is per-user, so each family member can study a different language

Lessons and Challenges

What it does: Each lesson is a sequence of challenges — multiple-choice questions and “select” / “assist” style matching exercises — that test vocabulary and grammar for that unit.

How it works:

  1. Open the Learn page and pick the next available lesson node
  2. Answer each challenge in the lesson
  3. A correct answer advances the progress bar and adds XP; a wrong answer costs a heart
  4. Completing the lesson shows a results card summarizing XP earned, and — if it was a flawless run — a celebration

Benefits:

  • Bite-sized lessons fit a few minutes at a time
  • Immediate feedback on every answer, right or wrong

Hearts

What it does: Hearts are your lives within a lesson. You start each lesson with a set number of hearts (typically 5) and lose one per wrong answer.

How it works:

  • Running out of hearts blocks starting new lessons until they refill on a timer, you buy a refill with gems in the Shop, or you upgrade to Pro
  • Pro removes the heart limit entirely

Benefits:

  • Encourages careful answers without making mistakes punishing beyond the current session
  • Gives a natural stopping point for shorter study sessions

XP and Points

What it does: XP (experience points) is earned for every completed lesson, with bonus XP for a perfect run.

How it works:

  • XP accumulates per user across all courses
  • Total XP determines your position on the Leaderboard

Benefits:

  • Simple, visible measure of overall progress
  • Powers the leaderboard and some quests without needing a separate scoring system

Quests

What it does: Quests are short-term goals (e.g. “Earn 20 XP today”, “Complete 3 lessons this week”) shown on the Quests page, each with its own progress bar.

How it works:

  1. Quests refresh on their own cadence (daily/weekly)
  2. Progress updates automatically as you complete lessons
  3. Completing a quest grants a reward, typically gems for the Shop

Benefits:

  • Gives structured, achievable short-term goals beyond “do a lesson”
  • A gentle habit-forming nudge without pressure

Leaderboard

What it does: The Leaderboard page ranks learners by XP earned in the current period, showing the top 10 and — if you’re not in the top 10 — your own current rank.

How it works:

  • Rankings update automatically as XP is earned
  • Purely informational — there’s no penalty for not competing on it

Benefits:

  • Optional motivation for competitive learners
  • A shared view for families who want to see how everyone’s doing

Shop

What it does: The Shop page is where gems (earned via lessons and quests) are spent.

How it works:

  • Hearts refill — instantly restore hearts instead of waiting
  • Pro upgrade — the entry point to subscribe to Sollingo Pro

Benefits:

  • Gives gems a clear, immediate use
  • Keeps the upgrade path visible without being intrusive elsewhere in the app

Chores

What it does: Chores let parents turn real-world household tasks into hearts a child earns.

How it works:

  1. A parent creates a chore from the Parent Dashboard and assigns it to a linked child
  2. The child sees and completes the chore from the Chores page, then submits it
  3. The parent reviews pending submissions and approves or rejects them from the dashboard
  4. Approved chores add hearts to the child’s account; the Chores page keeps a running history

Benefits:

  • Connects language learning motivation to responsibilities outside the app
  • Manual parent approval keeps oversight in human hands, not automated

Parent Dashboard

What it does: The Parent Dashboard is the family-management hub — link children, see their progress, manage the chore-approval queue, and review each child’s virtual wallet.

How it works:

  1. A parent links a child account from the dashboard
  2. Linked children appear in a list with their active course, hearts, and wallet balance
  3. Chore approvals and TV Time review happen from the same dashboard

Benefits:

  • One place for a parent to see the whole family’s activity
  • Each child keeps their own login — the dashboard is visibility and approval, not remote control of a child’s account

TV Time

What it does: TV Time converts lesson performance into minutes a parent can allow a child to spend watching TV.

How it works:

  • Completing a lesson adds minutes to the balance; a perfect (no-mistake) lesson earns more than one with errors
  • The TV Time page shows the current balance, a “how it works” explainer, and a transaction history of minutes earned vs. minutes a parent has marked as watched

Benefits:

  • Gives lesson completion a tangible, kid-relevant reward beyond points on a screen
  • Parents retain full control over how the earned minutes are actually used

Pro Subscription

What it does: Sollingo Pro is a $9.99/month subscription (billed via Stripe) that removes the hearts limit — no waiting, no gem-spending to keep learning.

How it works:

  1. Upgrade from the Shop page
  2. Subscription is managed through Stripe’s customer portal, linked from the same page
  3. Cancel any time; access continues until the end of the current billing period

Benefits:

  • Removes the only real gate in the app for households that want uninterrupted study sessions
  • Everything else — all 5 courses, chores, TV Time, quests, leaderboard — is already included free
